OpenBazaar Set To Relaunch
OpenBazaar is set to ‘grow again from the ashes’ after shutting down in 2020 due to financial issues and poor user growth. The decentralized marketplace appears likely to relaunch, with Brian Hoffman, the former project lead at OpenBazaar and CEO of OB1, tweeting about progress made on a “new” version of the marketplace. The OpenBazaar website currently bears the message “openbazaar 3.0 – coming soon.”
GitHub Updates Show Progress
A GitHub repository on the collaborative software development site shows progress as recent as April 12 on building a new version of the marketplace, which was shut down in 2020. Hoffman tweeted on April 9 regarding this progress getting “more interesting by the day.” When asked how it would be different this time around he spoke of “freedom of exploration” and inferred that outside influence had contributed to its initial downfall.
Hints Of A Comeback
The first hints that OpenBazaar would be launching a comeback came in a tweet from Hoffman on March 28, where he linked an OpenBazar GitHub page showing he’d been working on a new version using Rust programming language . Just hours later an official tweet from OpenBazaars account also posted saying work had begun and they would need recruits for ideas and thoughts.
Future Iteration In Works
After it was forced to shut down in 2020, Hoffman tweeted that a future iteration was in works but didn’t give details as to what that would look like or when it could be expected other than it was getting more interesting each day according to his tweets.
Conclusion
It’s clear that Open Bazar is ready for another comeback as they have already started working towards creating their latest version with Rust Programming Language which shows promise for their future iterations . With no outside influences or investors input yet , we can only wait and see how their new platform shapes up .
